Magha Purnima occurs on the full moon day of Magha Maas. Generally it will occurs in January or February. Magha Purnima is on Monday, 22nd February in 2016. Magha Purnima is an important day in Hindu calendar. According to the astrology Magh Maas is eleven of lunar calendar and Tenth of solar calendar. According to the purana's Ashada Maas, Karthika Maas, Magha Maas and Vaishaka Maas are the holy and auspicious month's. All purnima in this maas have great importance and significance. Procedure on Magha Purnima :

On this auspicious day of purnima bathing in sea will remove all sins done by the individuals. According to the science by bathing in salt water, water will go into the body through the hair and clean the waste materials inside the body. As devotees will enchant God mantra's, God stuthi, stotrm, Astotharam on this Maghi Purnima day will be more grateful for their life. on this day annadanam for poor people, giving sandles, umbrella and clothes to the brahmins is an ritual. Pitru trapanam on this is also ritual on this day.

Significance of Magha Purnima :

The reason and significance behind the Maghi Purnima snan is the Lord moon powers will stay in the sea on this Maghi Purnima. Those who cannot make it to the sea can take a bath in any other stream, river, tank or pond which is regarded as holy and auspicious. After bathing doing 'Rudrabishekam' and chanting 'Vyasa Grandam' are more precious on this day. Maghi Purnima or Magha Purnima is most important that is the reason why it is called as Maha Maghi. Maghi means 'Gha' means himsa or creul and 'Ma' means nishedam or releve. According to the purana's Magha Maas is called as Gnana maas. In Magha Maas most of the festivals will occurs like Vasant Panchami or Sree Panchami, Ratha Sapthami, Bhishma Astami, Matatraya Ekadashi, Bhishma Ekadashi, Varaha Dwadashi, Bhishma Dwadashi, Kumba Sankraman, Maha Shivarathri, Magha Purnima, Maas or Masa Shivarathri and Sankatahara Chathurthi will occurs.
