Sankashti Chaturthi is an auspicious day dedicated to Lord Ganesh, Sankashti Chaturthi coming in Sravanamas, fourth day after Purnima. Sankashti Chaturthi which comes on Tuesday is referred to as Angaraki Sankashti Chaturthi. Sankashti Chaturthi is also known as the Sankatahara Chaturthi or Sankashthi. Sankashti Chaturthi is done on chaviti. Sankata means problems or worries and Hara means removing. So observing Sankashtahara Chaturthi is believed to help in removing all difficulties and obstacles in life. The pooja is usually performed after sighting the moon. Fasting on Sankashti Chaturthi is considered very auspicious and extremely beneficial. Sankashti Chaturthi is observed by both males and females.

The fasting of Sankashti Chaturthi is same as Shivaratri. The devotees should observe Sankashti Chaturthi by having a complete fast which will be ended after observing the moon rise, followed by a puja to Lord Ganesha. The puja includes Ganesh sloka's and 108 names of Ganesh. Lord Ganesha likes Number 3 and hence 3, 12 or 21 are usually preferred. So sloka's and 108 names will prays thrice.
